This was the night Joe Mack, the rookie sensation, finally decided to join the party by launching his first career Major League home run in the 5th. The Nats tried to stage a desperate, pathetic rally in the 7th fueled by some sloppy Leo Jiménez errors, but Miami just kept punching. They capped it off with a Heriberto Hernández fifth home run in the 9th to seal a 7-3 rout. The Nats' defense looked like they were playing in slow motion, and the Marlins were playing in IMAX!
THE SWEEPJune 03 (MIA 4, WSH 1):
And finally, the exclamation point on this absolute beatdown! The Marlins completed the road sweep with a clinical, professional 4-1 masterclass. Esteury Ruiz set the tone early with a solo shot in the 2nd, and while the Nats managed to tie it up thanks to an Otto Lopez fielding error — because apparently, defense is optional in Washington — the Marlins didn't blink.
